Infrastructure work at Larnaca port and its marina will begin by the end of 2009 or by early 2010, Alekos Michaelides, Director of Public Works Department, has announced.
Michaelides said the Department is currently evaluating three dossiers, submitted by three groups of companies which are interested in putting forward tenders for the project.
"We hope that by the end of May, the Ministry of Communications and Works will decide on the contractor of its choice," he added.
The companies were invited to submit their tenders for the project in November 2006, said Michaelides, and added: “The contract with the successful company will be for a period of 35 years while the contract for the Larnaca marina development project is for three years, from the day it is signed.”
Infrastructure work at the port, he noted, should finish six years after the signing of the contract with the successful bidder.
The project will be assigned on the basis of BOT (Build, Operate, Transfer), he said. Zacharias Koulias, Chairman of the House Committee, asked that all relevant documentation on the project be submitted to the Committee for consideration.
